Welcome to the Shield of Respect

An Honest Rebellion Against Diet Culture And Self Doubt

It’s time to make the change — and make it one that lasts.
This isn’t about weight. It’s about worth. And it begins here.

I know the struggle — I’ve wrestled with the image monster more than once. And the truth is, it only gets louder once we move beyond the change. Whether brought on naturally or surgically, menopause changes everything. And it often happens faster than anyone prepares us for.

This journey? I’ll be walking it right beside you. Because I don’t just understand the challenges — I’ve lived them. I’m living with it every single day.

My biggest challenge? I’ve always been a “live to eat” kind of person. I love the taste of food — the textures, the memories, the comfort. But let’s be honest: the foods that taste the best are often the ones that do the most long-term harm.

Sugar is addictive. It doesn’t care that it soothes the savage depression beast with a dopamine rush — it still causes inflammation, tooth decay, and even fatty liver disease. The temporary relief it offers comes at a cost our bodies continue to carry.

How the Shield of Respect Works

We’ve been preached to, shamed, and ridiculed. For over a century, women have been told to lose the weight — as if that’s the only path to worth. The fashion industry may have started shifting, but let’s not pretend this is progress. It’s not about fuller models. It’s about our instinct to fight back.

Because we are not built to “lose.” Not weight. Not self-respect. Not our sacred right to exist in a body that changes.

We’ve been told that shrinking ourselves is the goal. But when we couldn’t — or wouldn’t — we were made to feel like failures. That shame has driven many of us to throw health to the wind just to finally stop losing.

The Shield of Respect is how we turn that around. It’s built on the truth at the heart of the book: That Weight Is Not Yours to Lose. This isn’t about surrender. It’s a rebellion — against the diet industry, against the shame industry, and against the myth that your value is measured in ounces.

Even now, as the modeling world hires larger bodies, it feels like a battle — not a peace treaty. Some of us surrendered to survival. But now? We rise with respect, not rules.

We’ve been taught that we are weak and that we have lost control. But that is not true. When I feel overwhelmed, I fall back on the science of the body — and the superpower we carry within it. Trillions of cells. Synaptic sparks. Messages moving faster than words. Our biology isn’t weak — it’s wise.
